Tilastoja on kerätty kaikkiaan 195 eri maasta. Selvää ykköspaikkaa pitää Samsung. Sen osuus Open Signal Mapsin tilastoissa on peräti 40 [...]...
- Videolla: Tizen pyörittää Android-sovelluksia19 May 2012, 7:19 am
- Ennakkotiedot lupaavat Galaxy S III -puhelimelle hurjaa menestystä18 May 2012, 1:40 pm
Muutama viikko sitten maailmalle Lontoossa esitelty Galaxy S III on nousemassa suursuosioon. Korea Economic Daily raportoi puhelimen saavuttaneen jo yhdeksän miljoonaa ennakkotilausta yli 100 operaattorin toimesta. Korea Economic Dailyn julkaisema luku on erittäin kova. Sitä voidaan peilata edellisen sukupolven Galaxy S -malliin, [...]... - Reuters: Samsung maailman suurin matkapuhelinvalmistaja18 May 2012, 12:25 pm
Korealainen Samsung myi vuoden 2012 ensimmäisen neljänneksen aikana enemmän matkapuhelimia kuin Nokia. Tutkimusyhtiö Reutersin laskelmien mukaan Samsung hallitsi matkapuhelinmarkkinoista tammi-maaliskuussa 20,7 prosenttia. Nokian osuus tippui vuodentakaisesta 25,1 prosentista 19,8 prosenttiin. Kolmanneksi suurimmaksi matkapuhelinvalmistajaksi on noussut amerikkalainen Apple. Tätä voidaan pitää äärimmäisen kovana suorituksena huomioiden Applen malliston, joka ei sisällä ollenkaan edu... - BlackBerry 10:ssä eleliikkeet ovat keskeisessä roolissa18 May 2012, 9:15 am
Kanadalainen RIM toivoo yhtiön pääsevän älypuhelinmarkkinoilla jälleen nousuun uuden BlackBerry 10 -alustan (BB10) myötä. Yhtiö esitteli alustan maailmalle ensimmäisen kerran toukokuun alussa. Kyseessä on täysin uudelleen suunniteltu alusta, joka sanoo hyvästit aikaisemmille versioille. BlackBerry 10 on tehty erityisesti kosketusnäyttöjä varten. Tällä alueella kanadalaisvalmistaja on ollut viime vuosina ongelmissa. Valmistaja aikoo joka tapauksessa jatkaa myös QWERTY-laitteide... - Galaxy S III päihittää edeltäjänsä akkukestossa selvin lukemin18 May 2012, 5:30 am
Eräs merkittävä kiitosta ansaitseva aihe piakkoin myyntiin saapuvassa Galaxy S III on puhelimen suuritehoinen akku. Siinä missä edeltäjästä löytyy 1650 mAh:n virtalähde, on uutuuden akku teholtaan 2100 mAh:ta. Tehokkaampi akku näyttäisi todellakin vaikuttavan positiivisesti laitteen toiminta-aikoihin, vaikka tehot ja näyttö ovatkin kasvaneet. Teknologiasivusto GSMArena on tehnyt mittauksia Galaxy S III:n akun kestosta. Puheajan ja videontoiston [...]... - Kommentti: onko iPadistä kannettavan korvaajaksi?17 May 2012, 11:15 am
- Lataa Nokia TV -sovellus nyt Lumia-puhelimeesi17 May 2012, 5:18 am

Nokia TV [...]... - Firefox for Android sai uuden käyttöliittymän16 May 2012, 3:57 pm
- Windows Phonen osuus merkittävillä markkinoilla edelleen pieni16 May 2012, 3:10 pm
- Microsoft: Windows Phone jo ohittanut iPhonen Kiinassa19 May 2012, 11:03 am
Microsoftin omien laskelmien mukaan yhtiön Windows Phone -alusta on Kiinan markkinoilla jo suositumpi kuin Applen iPhone eri versioineen. Vaikka Windows Phone -julkaistiin Kiinassa vasta muutama kuukausi takaperin, se on saavuttanut Microsoftin mukaan seitsemän prosentin markkinaosuuden kun iPhonen osuus on kuuden prosentin luokkaa.Microsoftin Kiinan toiminnoista vastaava Michel van der Bel uskoo kasvun jatkuvan nopean alun jälkeen. Erityisesti kasvua odotetaan Windows-tableteista. Windows-ta...
- ZTE vahvisti puhelimista löytyvän vaarallisen takaportin18 May 2012, 7:26 pm
Kiinalainen puhelinvalmistaja ZTE on vahvistanut, että yhtiön Yhdysvalloissa myymässä Score-mallissa on vakava haavoittuvuus, jonka avulla puhelimeen on helppo saada root-oikeudet. Vaikka nettiraporttien perusteella ongelma koskisi myös Euroopassa myytyä Skate-mallia, ZTE kiistää haavoittuvuuden löytymisen muista puhelimista.Haavoittuvuus tuli julkisuuteen tällä viikolla Pastebin-palveluun lähetetyn anonyymin viestin perusteella. Löydetty haavoittuvuus liittyy puhelimesta löytyvä... - Lisää salakuvia LG:n huhutusta superpuhelimesta18 May 2012, 6:05 pm
LG:n viime viikolla julkisuuteen putkahtaneesta "superpuhelimesta" on julkaistu lisää kuvia. Tälläkään kertaa BriefMobilen kuvista ei kuitenkaan saa erityisen tarkkaa kuvaa esimerkiksi laitteen etupuolen muotoilusta. LS970-mallinimellä tunnettu laite on ensimmäisten tietojen perusteella ainakin paperilla paremmin varusteltu kuin mikään tällä hetkellä markkinoille olevista puhelimista. BriefMobilen tietojen mukaan laitteessa olisi neliytiminen S4-järjestelmäpiiri, jonka Krait-ytime... - Nano-SIM-väännön ratkaisuksi ehdotetaan kompromissia18 May 2012, 8:56 am
- Uutta Galaxy S:ää on ennakkotilattu jo 9 miljoonaa kappaletta18 May 2012, 7:21 am
Samsungin Galaxy S III -älypuhelin julkistettiin Lontoossa muutama viikko sitten kunnollisen ennakkohypen saattelemana. Luku on huikea, sillä Galaxy S II:sta saatiin toimitettua 10 miljoonaa kappaletta viidessä kuukaudessa. Suosio alkaa lähennellä iPhone 4S:n vastaanottoa -- ... - Kyocera esitteli Android-puhelimen ilman kaiutinta17 May 2012, 1:40 pm
Japanilainen Kyocera on tuonut kotimaassaan myyntiin Android-puhelimen, joka kuljettaa äänen käyttäjän korvaan ilman perinteistä etupanelista löytyvää kaiutinta. Kyocera kutsuu tekniikkaa nimellä "Smart Sonic Receiver" ja se perustuu ääniaaltojen johtumiseen kuuloelimille kudosta pitkin värähtelemällä. Kyoceran mukaan kyseessä ei ole sama luuta pitkin johtumiseen perustuva tekniikka, jota käytetään esimerkiksi kuulokojeissa vaan keraamisen muuntimen avulla puhelimesta tuleva ... - Android-laitteet ja versiot visualisoituina17 May 2012, 10:33 am
- Tieto Applen tilauksista tiputti Samsungin arvoa miljardeilla17 May 2012, 8:11 am
Samsungin markkina-arvosta hävisi keskiviikkona hetkessä kymmenen miljardia dollaria eli noin 7,8 miljardia euroa kun yhtiön osake sukelsi kuuden prosentin verran. Reutersin mukaan osakkeen nopean laskun takana oli tieto Applen Samsungin kilpailijalle tekemästä jättimäisestä muistipiiritilauksesta. Samsung on maailman suurin DRAM-muistipiirien valmistaja ja Apple on ollut yhtiölle jo pitkään tärkeä asiakas. Taiwanilaisen Digitimesin eilisen uutisen mukaan Apple kuitenkin tilasi jät... - WSJ: uuden iPhonen ruutu "vähintään neljä tuumaa"16 May 2012, 5:26 pm

Eilen HTC julkisti edullisen Desire C -älypuhelimen, jonka Portugalin Vodafone oli ennenaikojaan lipsauttanut kevätkatalogiinsa. Heti seuraavana päivänä tarjolla on uutta vuotoa.

The bring-your-own device (BYOD) trend is booming, and while a new report from Cisco does little to quash such a claim, issues around IT governance clearly remain. Cisco’s IBSG Horizon Study was released earlier this week, and took in the opinions of 600 IT and business leaders in the US on the ascent of workers bringing their own smartphones and tablets into the workplace. And as to be expected, there were some strong figures in support for BYOD, with 95% of organizations allowing empl... - Is this the cheapest Ice Cream Sandwich tablet yet?18 May 2012, 3:33 pm
Android tablet prices keep coming down, but a small Chinese company, named HuaYi, has broken new ground with a 7-inch Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) tablet for an incredible $65. The tablet is a good $34 cheaper than what we thought was the previous cheapest Android 4.0 tablet, the $99 Novo7 slate from Chinese rival Ainol, and has just launched in China. It is not yet known when this tablet will tip up in the US and Europe. In terms of specifications, HuaYi’s tablet has a basic 800 x ... - Roundup: The best stylus for iPad or Android tablets18 May 2012, 3:24 pm
We pitted seven popular styluses against one another to see which one is the best. We judged them all on comfort, build quality, and writing experience. Find out which stylus comes out with top marks. Steve Jobs’ disdain for the stylus was legendary, but that doesn’t mean that there’s no place for one in your workflow. While an Apple-designed stylus may never seen the light of day, there’s a wide range of products out there that’ll help you to write, draw, tap a... - Want to advertise on the Kindle Fire? That’ll cost you $600,00018 May 2012, 3:09 pm
Rumor has it that Amazon is open to the idea of advertising agencies placing ads on the Kindle Fire’s home screen, but before you all scramble for your wallets – the price reported is a mega $600,000 per ad campaign. According to Ad Age, this lump sum will see your ad campaigns run for two months, and will also see your ad included in Amazon's own “Special Offers” advertising, which doesn't seem an awful lot giving the price. But there’s more. Ad Age says that ag... - Best New iPad Apps of the Week: Easier group email, Google Schemer, and a streamlined Facebook app18 May 2012, 12:12 am
Mail Groups Plugin On desktop computers, address book groups are a quick way to keep different subsets of your contacts in the loop. Unfortunately, iOS Mail doesn’t recognize groups on your iPad. You can of course manually create fake contacts with multiple addresses. The process is tedious, however, and managing more than a few address groups quickly turns into a time-consuming mess. Mail Groups Plugin ($0.99, iTunes) simplifies creating group contacts, and makes it easy to add and d... - Are Android smartphone and tablet makers getting impatient with Google?17 May 2012, 10:55 pm
Tired of being unable to differentiate, some device makers could follow Amazon’s path and break away from Google's rules regarding the Android operating system. Android device makers may be getting frustrated with being locked into making uniform, generic devices with no competitive differentiation from each other and getting their rear ends handed to them by Apple in the process. The problem has been around for a while. More than a year ago, Bloomberg first reported that Google ... - Will Apple bring iOS to a bigger (or smaller) screen near you?17 May 2012, 7:59 pm
Rumors about bigger iPhones and smaller iPads have been swirling since both of these devices debuted. Will they really happen this time? There's no denying that Apple has mastered the art of PR. They've got the kind of media profile that companies pay top dollar for, and they do it largely by strictly controlling the flow of information. Well, that and regularly creating new products that manage to be the exact thing you want, before you even know you want it. With the kind of secrecy...

- GameStop launches mobile service through AT&T for unlocked devices19 May 2012, 3:23 am

The convenience, as expected, comes at a price.Out of the five available plans, none sport unlimited data transfers, though the "Smartphone Unlimited" plan includes unlimi... - Acer announces new Ivy Bridge travel laptop18 May 2012, 10:28 pm

As the father of a young girl, the last thing I want her to encounter online is East Dulwich. The very idea of it, the thought of her innocent little eyes seeing uncensored East Dulwich content... I don't mind admitting that it makes me want to punch somebody in the face. Thank God, then, for the mobile network operators. Thanks to them, I can let my daughter use the mobile web without supervision, safe in the knowledge that anything to do with East Dulwich will be filtered long before it reache... - Updated: New iPad Mini release date, news and rumours18 May 2012, 10:40 am

Join us as we enter the thrilling world of SIM card design and a spat between manufacturers over the next generation of nano-SIMs that pits Apple against RIM and Motorola. What's happened is this: Apple designed a nano-SIM. A coalition consisting of RIM, Motorola and Nokia designed another nano-SIM. There can be only one standard nano-SIM design but none of the companies in question wants to give any ground and apparently things became quite heated at the last meeting to discuss the design. Cont...

While 7% of the Chinese smartphone market may seem like nothing to get excited about (especially considering Android had a staggering 68.4% last time we checked), it is an impressive statistic if you take into account that two months ago, not a single WP-powered device was for sale in China. Growth of this speed has only been seen in one other market so far: Nokia's backyard of Finland....... - LG Optimus TrueHD LTE goes on sale in Portugal18 May 2012, 1:15 pm

Excited for Nintendo's new tablet-esque controller? So are the kids in TT Games' QA department. An over-excited tester tweeted out an image of a slightly different Wii U slab than the one we laid hands on at E3 2011, teasing "look we what we have at work!" Answering the call does indeed reveal something worth looking at -- a somewhat wider looking Wii U slate featuring two full-sized analog sticks (as opposed to 3DS-like circle pads), a pair of unmarked button-like squares, and a new starboard...

- Hasselblad cuts H4D prices by up to 23 percent, might let you afford rent20 May 2012, 12:28 am
Hasselblad is typically known for everything but price cuts, and sometimes goes in the opposite direction. As such, we're more than a little caught off-guard by a round of price cuts on what's usually considered the definitive medium format camera line. The 'entry' H4D-31 has been cut down by as much as 23 percent; we're not sure we'd call it a steal at $11,995 without a lens, but it's now an option if you think even a Nikon D800's full-frame sensor is puny. Price slashes aren't reserved for t...

Going by Microsoft's Greater China COO Michel van der Bel, the launch of Windows Phone in China is off to an auspicious start -- enough to give Apple the shakes. He claims that devices like the Nokia Lumia 800c have helped Windows Phone reach seven percent of the Chinese market, or just enough to get past the six points of the iPhone. We're waiting on hard data before we take van der Bel's word: the top smartphone makers worldwide aren't depending much or at all on Windows Phone, and the iPhon...

- Facebook likes Karma app, buys the whole darn thing19 May 2012, 8:38 pm
What does one do after generating billions from an initial public stock offering? Go shopping, of course. After falling short of expectations following its somewhat helter-skelter IPO debut, Facebook simply shook off the whole thing and acquired itself some good Karma. No, we're not talking about that Karma. Instead, Facebook purchased the startup responsible for the Karma social gifting app. The move was apparently made to bolster Facebook's mobile chops -- an area the company considers ripe f...
- China clears Google acquisition of Motorola, eliminates last barrier to Googorola bliss (update)19 May 2012, 6:39 pm
The final significant roadblock to Google's buyout of Motorola has been cleared, as Chinese regulators have just given their rubber stamp. Their approval follows a few months after the simultaneous American and European clearances, and virtually all that's left now is to formally close the deal and start integrating the two mobile giants. It might still come too late for the combined entity to present a united front at Google I/O, but at least they won't have any awkward glances at each other ...
